Who told you this?, never heard of it making the dak rust. In my opinion
factory flares look best, fit best and the paint matches. Plus plastic doesn't
rust.
Pluses: Looks good, covers those wide tires that spray the side of the dak, and
sometimes work as door ding protectant.
Cons: Tires rub on some lowered trucks when they didn't before. (no problem
with my hotchkis, 275/50/17 tires and wheel flares.
