Gen I and Gen II

What is the difference between the Gen I dakota and the Gen II dakota? I
own a 1989 Dakota that I plan to do some work on. I am having a hard time
finding much information on it. Checking around some members pages and
other sites it looks like the Gen I will be a close match to the Gen II.
