K&N replaces the stock hat which hinders air flow, but with a home-brew setup
most of the time it's kept. Don't get me wrong, anything is better than a stock
setup.

I agree with Punch..unless asthetics are important to you (to be honest, see
my pics, the homebrew setup really isnt that bad lookin), and you have the
$250 to throw at the setup, make yourself a homebrew setup and see how ya
like it.
I have a 99 V6 and I made a homebrew setup. Here is my How-to page with K&N
filter number (although Punch quoted $70 for the filter, my particular
filter only ran $39 special ordered):

Oh by the way, both throttle response and MPG were gained from this
relatively cheap mod. I have no specs on either, but as far as the "sucking
sound" goes...yes you will get that!
