my past: I said to Jill (girlfriend) that my cat. converter is lasting for
a long time (for me)...and what do you know...the next week it went out
again...the 3rd time...

Sorry, I don't have any experience with engine block heaters. I doubt it's
going to help you in this situation - I think they're more for deep cold.
I've never needed one on my Dak, after spending 2 winters outdoors every
night.
Before you spend the money & time, get a free battery test done. Pretty
much any auto-parts store will do it.
