Actually Punch...the dual outlet flowmaster I have has two 2 1/4"
outlets....and I havn't lost any noticeable low-end or midrange on
mine...although I have a bored TB and custom intake...along with all the
other bells and whistles we DMLers usually have :)
I'm pretty sure that Bernd will concur that you can go with 2.5" (MAX) dual
catback on a V6 with acceptable low end loss. I "believe" however that the
flowmaster 40 series for a V6er has the 2 1/4" dual outlets?
Here's the application guide from flowmaster:

Eric,
You should be able to find the dimensions of your muffler if you don't
already know. I don't have adobe acrobat installed right now.(currently
reinstalling all my software :(..so I couldn't confirm the outlet diameter
for the 40 series.
Actually you didn't mention whether you have the dual outlet flowmaster or
not.....but I'm guessing you don't (if you did, I assume you would already
have that setup). If you have a single outlet flowmaster...a muffler shop
could run a "Y" connector off of the muffler outlet, then run two seperate
pipes off of that. I don't believe this will give you much in the way of
additional performance....but it should "look" the same, and the additional
resonance from the dual setup should give you a deeper sound..
