Re: What I am looking for in plugs Was: Spark Plugs for 5.2l

When I was using the Bosch+4 Plats, I had a very smooth idle...but then
again the Dak was brand new. I ran the same set for the first 2 years with
no probs at all.(to be honest I didn't even pull them out during that
period)..and when I pulled them they didn't look bad at all.

The 4 way design of the +4 'supposedly' improves the spark by providing more
surface area....hard to tell with a new Dak though....maybe someone has used
them on an older Dak and has a comparitive point of view??

Ya can't beat them (platinum) if your truck sits alot. I would imagine that
with 'standard' type plugs (copper).....you would still have age related
oxidation while it sat... whereas the platinum are much more resistant to
oxidation (and corrosion) and will remain clean much longer. Granted they
are ~$4 a pop...but if your not looking for "performance" plugs...and the
Dak sits alot with low mileage...they are probably your best bet.

Although Bernd can probably give ya some better tips regarding maintaining
your low mileage, seldom used Dak....if you don't aready do so...its often a
good idea to start up the truck on a regular basis....get it up to operating
temp and rev it a few times....helps keeping the gaskets from dryin out, and
keeps the moving parts from sitting in one position too long amongst other
things. Not sure bout the frequency, but I know dealerships do this with
their cars to keep them from sittin too long. The reving helps clear out
carbon buildup...especially if much of your driving is around town,
stop-n-go. This of course is my own 0.02 which has been passed down to me.

.....this would be a good time for mighty Bernd to pipe in, in case my ole
timer maintenance tips aren't completely accurate :)
