I got the factory skid plates on my 2000. The didn't
last long. I was doubtful about the plastic composite
material, then I figured Dodge is pretty smart maybe
they will work, then they failed.
As others noted, the plastic looks robust with all
those molded reinforcements and all. But it is brittle
and breaks easily. The big front suspension skid plate
fell off after the material around the rear mounting
bolts failed. The transfer case skid plate had begun
to do the same thing. When I got hung up on a rock
near the Rubicon it completely shattered. I'm looking
at what's left of it right now; it's in a half-dozen
pieces.
I've been thinking about different options for
replacing them.
Read about one solution at:

Then try dropping a note to claycdbj641@cs.com.
He had some nice steel skid plates fabricated by a
local shop. I've seem them on his truck; they are very
robust.
Good luck,
-J.
