According to the handy-dandy DML tire calculator
(http://www.dakota-truck.net/TIRECALC/tirecalc.html):

DimensionTire A: 275/50 R 17 Tire B: 255/55 R 17Difference
Width 10.83" (275.00mm) 10.04" (255.00mm)
Sidewall height 5.41" (137.50mm) 5.52" (140.25mm)
Overall height 27.83" (706.80mm) 28.04" (712.30mm)
Circumference 87.42" (2220.48mm) 88.10" (2237.76mm)

Complete speedometer comparison chart omitted.

If your speedometer has been calibrated for 255/55 R 17 tires, replacing
them with 275/55 R 17's would result in the speedometer reading low by
3.00%.

Same as with the speedometer, if your odometer has been calibrated for
255/55 R 17 tires, replacing them with 275/55 R 17's would result in the
odometer reading low by 3.00%.

As far as gearing goes, if you have a 3.92 rearend and 255/55 R 17 tires,
changing to 275/55 R 17's would be the same as if you kept your current
wheels and tires but changed your rearend gears to 3.80's
