We used to do this on the older GM and Chrysler transmissions. No
problems what-so-ever and yes, the Type-F ("F" stands for Friction
modified...not Ford) works very well. Now on the newer transmissions
(2001+ models)...i'd be careful. There is no substitute for a shift kit
though.

 They always recommended switching to type F in the
older transmissons after installing a shift kit for
firmer shifts. But on the new transmissions I would be
leery of messing with them. Everything is a lot more
critical than before. bernd recommended a mixture,
that could be your solution.
