i use this trick on my Softail Deuce, puncture the filter with a nail. have a half of milk carton cut(the plastic ones with the
handle and the cap on) and ready to catch the oil,pull the nail, drain the filter then just remover it. no muss no fuss.

Keep a can of NON-flammable brake cleaner handy... make a mess, then spray
it off =) I do it quite often on cars @ work, when I feel generous enough
