I guess I posted the pictures to the DML without the story. My truck went up
in flames on Monday, literally. I got back from running an errand. I had
been in my office for 5 minutes and one of my employees told me there was
smoke coming from my truck. I went outside and looked and there was now
smoke rolling across the parking lot. I called 911. Within a minute there
were flames 8 feet high.
The truck is totaled from the cab forward. They had to break the windshield
and the windows. The engine bay is in ashes. Everything that would burn,
did. The radiator is almost destroyed. The valve covers started to melt and
fold in on themselves. The power steering pump is nowhere to be seen. The
flames ate back in to the dash. It partially melted, seats were damaged.
The headliner and roof were damaged. It's just gone.
The fire inspector had three things to say. He definitely did not think it
was intentionally set. He believes it started on the driver's between the
valve cover and the radiator. He does not know what the origin was. I had
it flatbedded to my friend's body shop. The fire inspector is going to look
at it there again tomorrow.
I talked to my insurance agent, who is also a friend and sponsor on our race
car. He said it would be covered under our comprehensive policy, not auto
(it's registered to the business, so it's on our insurance). He seemed
optimistic that I would be able to get some money back on my mods
