Hurst Noise Solved - Somewhat - Switch Fluid Next?

First, I have to say that I love the Hurst shifter but there were a couple
of things that needed to be fixed.

The biggest problem really came down to the noise in the cab. Fine when I'm
alone with the radio, but intrusive when I'm with someone. I often take
customers to lunch so that truck has to be low key. Also, did anyone else
have a problem with the stock boot covering the new stick? Mine kept pulling
the boot up and out of the console.

So this weekend I set out to fix things.

First I cut a pad out of a blue closed cell camp pad. This went around the
tranny, under the plastic console. Then a created a 4 sided pyramid that
fit up over the shift tower and zip tied around the stick.

Well, if I had a problem with the stock rubber boot before, now it was
impossible to fit over the shifter.

Well, I dug out an old black leather jacket, and an hour later with the help
of a sewing machine, I had a new leather boot. I made this one much more
generous in size and it fits over the shifter much better. I think it looks
better too :-)

I did have to sacrifice the old boot. I cut the rubber off of the metal ring
at the bottom and glued the new leather boot to it.

My additional sound deadening definitely made a difference. Using the stock
knob help immensely as well. I now have crisp shifting, and only a little
more noise in the cab.

Question for the rest of you 5 speed guys:
I know some of you guys have switched tranny fluids, with Redline being the
most popular. Has this helped with tranny noise?

P.S. Something you may notice about Canadians - we all have an old black
leatrher jacket in the closet.
