GM made starterless design engines in the 80's.
eng. has to be multiport injection,
computer searchs for cyl. at firing position,
inj. pulses, spark fires, momentum spins crank,
rest of the cyls. fire and vrrrroom, started.
there still was a starter as a backup.
the design principle isnt new, rotary eng.
aircraft have had gunpowder charge engine
starters since the 40's or earlier.
