If you're chummy with a dealer, they can run the VIN through the
computer and get the original build specs, any warranty service its
had, etc. Carfax will get you some DMV records. As far as the
VIN itself goes, the decoder on the DML home page will tell you
everything there is that can be gleaned from the VIN. In order to
get more info, the VIN just becomes a key to search on in a database.
