4 hours is right on par with actual "book time". Keep in mind that book
time is based on hand tools, a little bit of time for any problems, and
not taking any short-cuts. Also keep in mind that you'll need to change
the oil and coolant afterwards.

$250 + parts at my shop.

If the chain is at 60K miles, I'd change it as the stock chain doesn't
last too long. Cloyes or Edelbrock are the chains that I use - $45-$60
depending on the model.

If the stock chain breaks at higher rpm's...yes, you can damage the
engine.

BTW: I've done the timing chain on my truck in about 1 hour as well but
there's no fan, fan shroud,
and I keep my engine clean. This is on my personal truck...if I make a
mistake on my truck, that's my own fault for rushing through it. On
customer vehicles, paying attention to detail and doing it right
(without rushing the job) is the only way we operate.

does 4hrs labour sound right?

what would you charge in your shop? can the chain be checked ahead of
time? do they usually need to be replaced?

they say if it breaks, the motor is toast?
