It's a derivative of the following definition for fob:

        a. A short chain or ribbon attached to a pocket watch and worn hanging in
front of the vest or waist.

        b. An ornament or seal attached to such a chain or ribbon.

    When you get home take the batteries out and wipe them off with alcohol,
It sounds like finger print oil got on them. I had to spring my battery
coontacts a little inside the fob so they would make good contact. Well, at
least you know the fob is ok. Bill
