Yup, I was changing my dad's oil in his 01 Dak and copied the part numbers
for his little thingamadoohickey in the oil filler tube (4.7L).
I called about getting one today and there is a TSB out for 99-2k 4.7L's.
So set up a service appt and get yours free today!

Is the SRT-10 production will hit the showroom in the spring of 2003?
Looking at the release of the HD Ram for this fall, the truck division does
not want the two release together. Is this correct?

Richard,
I don't know much more than you can read at www.car-truck.com.
It should go into production later this year. It could be built at
Dodge City, or St. Louis Truck or Mexico. Since it is a rather
small run, I would think the top brass would pick one plant to
build them all. If I were to guess, I would bet on Dodge City.
The Viper plant is very close and so are the V10's :)

Rick,
I had to change mine after 39k on my 98 Dak.
You need to remove the fan(big adjustable
wrench),radiator shroud, hoses and the usual stuff.
The AC and other accesories can be unbolted and moved
to the side.
Just make sure the water pump you get has the water
pump pulley pressed in. I think sometime in 98 they
switched to a pressed fit one.(Mine was pressed fit)
It's a real PITA trying to get the old one off and
pressed on to the new one if it's not!

Subject: Re: DML: Power Steering Whine!
I had a similar experience a couple weeks back. Mine turned out to be the
mounting bolts on the pump between the pulley and the pump. One of the
bolts had come out completely and was flying around in the pulley this made
a chirping whinning noise as it bounced around. Every so often, it would
get caught between another bolt and the pulley making a grinding noise.
Other times it would bind enough to make the belt slip and we know what that
sounds like. Of course, mine was not related to turning the wheel and you
have to press off the pulley to get to the bolts.
It would be interesting if yours is the same problem cuz I have the 99 v-6
cc 5 speed too.

To run a diagnostic on your truck simply press in your trip button and hold
and turn your key to the on or start position I forget which one it is but
don't start it after you turn the key watch the lights where your digital
milage reads and it will start doing a scan and your guages will move. After
it is done if there is a problem it will give you a code.

The pump eh? :(
I don't think its the belt slipping or bolts rolling around. The whine is
exactly the same as when your out of PS fluid (for those of you with this
experience). Its a whine/moan sound that changes tone whenever the wheel is
turned (and gets louder whenever the wheel is turned).
It was doing this last year every now and again as well. Up to this point I
assumed that the pump is either good and works...or is bad and don't. I
hadn't thought that it may be "going" on me?? Damn

The most certain way to tell is to just look at the rearend. The
8.25 is an oval shape with 10 bolts, the 9.25 is a diamond shape
with 12 bolts.

Once the warranty is up, TSBs cost. They're not like recalls, which are
critical, safety-related problems. The manufacturer is not required to
inform owners of them.
A TSB is basically a communication from HQ to the dealers saying "we've had
numerous reports of this particular problem - here are the symptoms and
fixes." Service departments typically won't apply a TSB unless they've
found it while diagnosing a problem and they can match up the symptoms.

What year 318 are you referring to? The pre-67s were completely different,
but may have soldiered on in heavy trucks.
IIRC from my MoDot days, the truck engines were different from the car
engines, similar to the 366-427s in Chevy heavy trucks. No comparison.
We had some D-700s with 361s in them-they had angle plug heads, while the
car versions were straight in parallel to the ground.
My truck was a D300 with 360, auto and Dana 4.10s in it. What a rocket! A
few of the locals got to find out, too!

And I have a lead foot too. I have been keeping trask of my fill ups since
Jan 13th. So far I have:
spent $231.95 on fuel...
made 11 fill ups...
burned 152.543 gal's of regular unleaded 87 octane...
and driven 1,327 miles...
for an average of 8.7 MPG...
NOT good for a 3.9L V6 and now uel prices are rising above $1.60 for
regular,
here in Chicago. I'm still trying to track the problem down. I know I
have
trans problems as I have stated. Overdrive isn't behaving. And I want to
check my rear diff gears. I'm also going to replace the O2 sensors...
havn't
replaced those yet.
My worst MPG was when I was doing plow work... got 5.394 MPG.

Subject: DML: Gen III 2wd suspension question
Does anyone know what the differences are between the GenIII and GenII front
suspensions on the two wheel drive trucks?
One of my ongoing thought processes is how to raise my 2wd Daktota 5-7"
inches (2-4" taller than a 4x4). The rear supsension is eary enough, but
the front is the tricky part. Seems the only way to lift our 2wd front ends
is to add longer coils or coil spacers, both ways just adding stress to the
front end. Taller spindles would be the best way I can figure, but of
course no one makes any for the GenII's. So I am wondering how different
GenIII parts are from GenII parts? Could one of the lift kits for a GenII
2wd be adapted "relatively" easily to fit a GenII?
Is a straight axle conversion my only way to get the ground clearance I want
and the tough look my girl wants?

It makes a difference, also, if you live in a cooler climate (or at least
where the mornings are chilly). When the engine first starts in the
morning, the computer is running it in rich mode (like a choked carb) to
warm the engine faster and prevent stalling. Keeping this in mind, if you
make several trips during the day, each time starting a cold engine, your
MPG could potentially go way down. Also, winter gasoline is different from
summer gasoline (and CA gasoline is (or used to be) different from gasoline
in the other 49 states), although I don't know what the effects on MPG
are.....
