Well, its that time of year again! :-)
I just sent in the paperwork for the DML tent and club challenge for
the All Chrysler Nationals (Chryslers at Carlisle).
For those of you who may not be familiar, the Carlisle show is held
at the fairgrounds in Carlisle, PA and is one of the biggest (if not
the biggest) Mopar shows around. The DML will have a shade tent
there right on the show field, in the Dakota area. We have to pay
a deposit for the tent, but if we get 20 cars or trucks registered
as "Dakota Mailing List" members, we get the tent for free. Plus,
we have a shot at taking home some prize money for the DML coffers.
Its not much, but every little bit helps. :-)
The on-line registration form is up, you can find it by surfing
through the www.ifounditatcarlisle.com site, or here's a direct URL:
http://www.ifounditatcarlisle.com/onlinereg/eventsshowfield.asp?ItemID=59
Admission is $35, which allows you to bring in one vehicle and two
people for the entire 3 day event. You will also be able to park right
on the show field next to the DML tent instead of out in the parking
lot or on the street. You have until June 23 to preregister. After
that date, you will need to register at the event, which will cost
$45 instead of $35.
When you fill out the form, please be sure to list your club
affiliation as "Dakota Mailing List", instead of just "DML". If
you register under "DML" you won't be counted as a club member,
and won't count towards the club challenge or the tent.
The dates of the show are July 12-14, 2002. Once you register
on-line, they will snail mail you an info packet. Basically the
procedure is to enter at the "K" Street entrance, and you
immediately turn left into the registration area. There will
be guys running around with clipboards and/or people sitting
under a tent. You will need to see those folks first, they
will take some info from you and give you some stuff, then you
go into the little building to confirm your registration and get
your goody bag. At that point, you can put your sticker on your
windshield, and drive into the fairgrounds. There will be people at
every intersection who will read your sticker and direct you to the
Dakota parking area. Look for the DML tent with the black and yellow
"Dakota Mailing List" banner. Carlisle is a very well organized show,
and a whole lot of fun. Plenty to look at and drag racing on Friday
too. If you haven't checked it out yet, I highly recommend it -
and if you are coming, please be sure to register as a member
of the "Dakota Mailing List" club. (Thanks!) :-)
BTW, the "official DML hotel" is once again the Rodeway Inn
in Dillsburg, PA. I don't know if there are any rooms left
or not, so if you are planning on coming, definitely get your
accomodations in order - rooms sell out quick! You can reserve
on-line at http://www.choicehotels.com, but when I tried that
this year, it said there were no rooms available but when I
called the hotel directly, I got a room no problem. The phone
number for the hotel is (717) 432-9766. There's a very good
restauraunt right next door to the hotel where we usually get
breakfast every morning before convoying out to the show.
(Its about 10 miles or so from the show, on country roads until
you get into Carlisle itself.)
Oh, speaking of convoys, I'm organizing the "northern convoy"
again (from the Buffalo/Niagra Falls area down to Carlisle) -
we've got a few folks lined up already - a few daks and a Dart.
We'll be heading down on Thursday July 11. See
http://www.dakota-truck.net/profiles/dmlevent/Pl7RNXaBxaC1g for
info about the convoy and for the Carlisle show in general, see:

If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to
e-mail me (or post them here if you like, so others can benefit).
I hope to see you there!!
PS: According to the brochure, along with concepts like the Viper
ACR and SRT and Power Wagon, the Sidewinder will be at the show.
Should be interesting - I haven't had a chance to see it in person
yet. (V10 powered concept based on a Dakota)
