I know it's the leaf spring bushings because I've been spraying them for
about 10K miles. It's still under warranty and my dealer has been
excellent so I may still try to get them to replace them. It just
disturbs me the amount of annoying problems my Dakota has had in the
short 34K highway miles I've put on it. It's also disturbing to see
that these are common problems that in typical Chrysler fashion have not
been addressed from year to year. Maybe I just set my expectations too
high from having two previous Chevy K1500's each over 200K miles w/o any
problems at all(or squeaks and rattles). Thanks for the info.

I had the same problem with my other truck. I found that it was not
the
bushings but the leaves rubbing together. I jacked up the frame to
seperate
and unload the springs. Then I got a spray can of white lithium grease.
It
came with an extension tube, I sprayed it between the leaves and let it
down,
it never came back in 50K miles.
If it is the bushings you can buy Rubber Lubricant at the parts
house and
spray the bushings every so often and that should solve the problem.
It's a
lot cheaper than having the dealer do it. Bill
