Valve Body Transfer Plate problem

I am having a problem with my transmission shifting. I
have a 99 4x4 Extended Cab V6 with Auto. I had to have
the Valve Body Transfer Plate replaced back 18 months
ago when I had 20358 miles. I now have 51000 miles and
it is happening again. The dealer wants $81 just to
pull codes.

Does anyone in the Chicagoland area have a code scanner
to pull the code(s) that I have?

How hard is it to replace the Transfer Plate?
