Hi Kevin,
Yes, there is more going on. With the adjuster you can fool the engine into
thinking it's getting denser air and the PCM will bump the timing slightly
and give you a little more fuel, but (and I stress the but) the air is not
really denser. Your engine loves dense air, the kind that's right around
45ºF. Since it's optimum burn rate of fuel and the time when it does it is
based on the dense air, that's when it works the best. Now, it tries to
adjust when the air is thinner or warmer but it's not going to produce the
power that it does when the air is 45º. That's why these K&N FIPK's include
a heat shield. The temperature of the air going into your engine does make
a difference. There was a person trying to develop his A/C system to push
cold air through his input. The theory is: the A/C compressor uses up about
4 hp but that cold air develops at least 10 times that amount in hp, at
least on a Viper. That system is for sale but it's really expensive. It's
called a Pre Chiller.

Thanx Ron...no I'm just plain ole depressed :)
I suppose I was basing my expectations on what other apparently experienced.
All I know is on chilly mornings, the Dak has NOTICEABLY (butt dyno) more
power/quicker response than on the hot days. My expectation of the IAT
adjuster was that I would get the same effect without the need for a 'cold
morning'. I don;'t claim to know allot about the computer side of things,
but my guess is that there is more going on than simply the IAT to give me
that increased response on the chilly days?
I'm keeping my IAT adjuster regardless......it certainly didn't make
anything worse....and if there is a cumulative effect I'll keep adding more
mods ;)...there are worse things in this life to do.
