No BUS refers to the CTM, Central Timer Module. Before I would replace that
item I would check all my grounds to make sure they're making good contact
and there isn't any corrosion. Once you've done that, then go to the next
paragraph.
If your dealer cannot test your Dak on the fly with a portable scanner, then
find another dealer. They can put the portable unit in your truck and when
the bus fails it should be able to record all the particulars necessary to
diagnose and repair the problem.

Subject: DML: Questions about 1999. Will not start occasionally
Howdy,
My Dad's 1999 Dakota 5.2L V8 occasionally when hot will not start,
fuel pump in tank will not operate, instrument panel gauges are
inoperative, check engine light does not come on when the key is
turned on. After approximately 15 seconds check engine light comes
on electronic odometer changes indication from showing mileage and
says "no bus". After letting the truck set over night with the
battery disconnected, operations return to normal.
Dealer says fault must be "in action", or happening at the time to
analyze. How does he get it to fail at the dealer or shop? They say
they can't do anything unless it fails for them.
Does anybody have any ideas for me on what could be the problem?
Thank you in advance for your help.
