hey everybody...
i've got a V6, without the heavy-duty alternator (so its a 117Amp). now...
the alternator has a bad bearing, and its making a high-pitched noise (for
which i've been asked if i've put a supercharger in my truck). i asked a
guy at my local dodge dealership if i could put a more powerful alternator
(the 125Amp), and he told me that the stock wiring on my truck can't handle
the increased power, and that i would fry the wiring out.
i doubted that, but he told me that they've had a couple of trucks in the
shop for repairs after switching to a more powerful alternator, and they all
needed new wiring because it fried the wires out.
now... is this total BS, or is there something behind this? and, if any of
you have had to replace your alternator, what did you go with? and, if i
put in a more powerful Alt, and a pulley kit, should i go for the alternator
pulley?
sorry for all the questions, but this is something i've got to do when i get
back from vacation.
thanx
Gabe
