First check your belt. It could be the culprit as well. If you have ever
accidentally gotten antifreeze or brake fluid on your belt that's probably
what's whining. If not, then my next guess would be the tensioner, then the
idler pulley.

Subject: DML: annoying noise
alright everybody...
i've been having this annoying noise coming from somewhere along the
serpentine belt. i was originally told that the noise (more like a whine,
which increases in pitch as i rev the engine) was coming from the
alternator, because one of the bearings was bad. that was back in october
(i think). well, i took the truck to be examined by an alternator
rebuilder, and he told me that it wasn't the bearing on the alternator, that
it was probably coming from on of the idler pulleys that are close to the
alternator.
now, this noise is as annoying as a telemarketer during dinner. has anyone
had this problem? and if so, how much does it cost to replace/repair the
pulleys and stuff.
again... any help would be greatly appreciated, this thing is pissing me
off.
