The starter is locked out by a switch in the transmission so it wont even
try to work when the truck is in gear. The instruments will all stop
working as well as most accessories. However, some evil things may happen
to computer controlled stuff like fuel mixture, overdrive and converter
lockup wont work and on my 99 R/T the truck wont shift out of second gear
until I let go of the switch. I am told it disables the speed sensor so the
transmission does not know when to upshift. I really don't recommend this
myself.
