I'm not sure what the actual rules are, but when I went through driver's ed,
we were taught that you should be coming off the ramp actually going faster
than the traffic you're merging into, because it's easier for most cars to
slow down than it is to speed up. In my last Dak (lifted 4x4) I used to
just get over when I felt like it, people just seemed to get out of my way
:P Now, in my R/T, I have enough power to make it into any opening in
traffic, and people still get out of my way, but maybe that's cause I'm
coming off the ramp doing 90 :) But seriously, I know that the person who
is merging is supposed to yield, but I always try to give them room, just
keeps traffic flowing and makes it safer for everyone, don't need to make
anyone stop on an on ramp. Although, I'm rarely in the right hand
lane...unless of course everyone in the left hand lane is going 10 under the
posted limit, I'll just have to make sure I don't do that in MA :P
