I agree with Jon 100%. I believe Jon should have the last word on anything
that is distributed or worn that has the DML letters, DML logo or facsimile.
If you've followed the rules you have nothing to worry about. :-)

Subject: DML: Selling DML products

I felt I should post something amidst all the controversy and
questions regarding selling DML merchandise...

I have no problem with people making DML items for themselves, as
long as they are in good taste. (Whenever you display the DML logo,
you reflect on the DML as a whole; how will someone who sees whatever
it is you've made know it is a personal thing? They will assume it
is "officially endorsed" by the DML.) Because I want to keep the
DML in the best light possible, I am wary about such items. If in
doubt, shoot me an e-mail and ask first.

Regarding selling products to others with the DML logo on it, I
don't have a problem with this per-se, but the following restrictions
apply:

  - Same as the stuff you make for yourself, it should be in good taste.
(again, ask if there is any doubt)

  - A portion of the proceeds should go to the DML to help defray its
operating costs. I don't mind if you keep something for yourself
to offset your expenses, etc. but selling DML merchandise shouldn't
be something you're doing to make a profit - it should be to help
    out your fellow DMLers.

  - The product(s) you are selling must be of good quality, and priced
fairly. Similar to making sure it is in good taste, I don't want
the DML's name associated with junk. :-) As far as the pricing
goes, for the things I have sold in the past (decals, calendars,
etc.) I have charged enough to make sure I cover all the expenses
and then a couple of dollars extra for the DML coffers.

  - Whenever possible, the www.dakota-truck.net URL should be included
on the item. (After all, a big part of doing this sort of
stuff in the first place is to attract new members, and they need
to know where to go to find us.

  - I reserve the right to request someone making DML stuff to stop,
to modify any of these "rules", and to basically do whatever I want,
    for any reason whatsoever. ;-)

Essentially, what it comes down to is if you are interested in
making DML "stuff" to sell, your motivation should be helping out
the DML, and the stuff you are making should be quality, reasonably
priced, and in good taste. The DML should be one big happy, respectable
family. :-) If you are interested in doing something along these
lines please feel free to contact me to discuss it, and I thank you
in advance for your support. Speaking of which, I would like to publicly
thank Chris Lambert for his initiative and support of the DML. I will
admit, I wasn't 100% sold on the idea at first; I had always taken care of
the DML "merchandise" myself so that I could maintain absolute control
over the issues listed above, but I am only one person and I will be
the first to admit that it takes me a long time to get ANYTHING done!
It took that realization to allow me to look at it in a new light
and reconsider the initial "vision" I had regarding this sort of stuff.
So, my official position is that I don't have a problem with more than
one source for DML "stuff", as long as it meets the guidelines above.

As always, any questions or comments are welcome.
