Tom, replacing that chain is not that hard to do.

Subject: DML: Really need help now (long)

Here is the deal.. I called the mechanic today to see how things were
going - starter installed... the engine noise wasnt the engine it was
the alternator bearings he said. I was suprised.. happy but also leery.

Went over there got teh truck (starts up wonderfuly now) and I hear no
noise at all.. I was very suprised.

Drive the truck around and come home - - the noise is baaaack... just as

it was before. I'll tell you right now, if the Dodge brothers came back

from teh great beyond and told me the problem was NOT the timing chain..

I would tell them they are idiots. I am CONVINCED it is the chain.

I am not going back to that mechanic ever again ;-) The machine shop
went out of business, and my ex-mechanic didn't want to absorbe the cost

of (under warrenty) repairs and is feeding a line of BS to me and won't
properly investigate/fix the problem... I need the engine to last at
least another 6 months. Also he said I was a quart low on oil) Either I

am burning oil or I have oil leaks. I suspect more burning than
leaking. (seems the trend at the BBQ was suck sludge now, screw up cyl
walls and oil control rings, burn quarts of oil later (Adam, Jason
Yates, and now me.)

Here is where I need help...

As I said I need that truck running - I want to do the chain replacement

myself - - question: will I be able to do it?

I have been studying the FSM and it seems a rather involved process. I
have never pulled a chain before and it should be noted that I have
problems keeping valve cover gaskets from leaking. Also check the
archives describing my brake caliper/wheel stud incident)

How much does the chain cost? I want the whole kit'n Kaboodle.. chain,
sprockets, tensioner.

I'm up a creek here guys and gals.. I need this truck for my job (Napa
wants me to use my own truck for deliveries - ugh)

Daktoberfest is once again in question. <sigh>
