I think you could get away with it. Seems like I recall some
discussion on the DML a while back about the GenIII trucks switching
from a 2 piece to a 1 piece on the club cabs. When you consider the
length of the driveshaft on a bus or a dump truck, the shaft you'd
need is downright short. :-) Granted, those particular applications
don't spin the rpms you might, but I should think any decent
driveshaft shop (Denny's, etc.) will be able to make you a nicely
balanced one piece. Going aluminum with it would help as far as
the weight issue goes. Especially considering that you are installing
an 8 3/4 - if the angle is a bit much, you can probably compensate
using the pinion angle when you install the rearend.
