Hi Steve,
No, I think you misunderstood. Changing the crank pulley will change the
alternators output below ~1200rpm. I took from the original post you were
just questioning a belt length change with an altered alternator pulley.
(How do you like that one?) Thought you were just looking to drop driving
some of the power options for the track. Even with a change in pulley
sizes, once you get above the 1200rpm threshold, you will have the same
alternator output regardless of pulley diameter (within reason of course).
I hope this cleared up any confusion I may have caused.
Rich
PS. I'm going to lunch!!! :'B

So Rich, with keeping the same alternator size pulley but changing the
crankshaft pulley, the electrical current remains at manufacture's
specifications?

Steve,
The belt length is irrelevant. What makes the difference are the pulley
sizes. I don't remember the size of my water pump and crank pulleys
comparatively speaking, but the under drive pulley for the alternator is
larger, hence the rpm's are reduced.

Why????

I know Ron, I am not an electrical engineer but with more revolution on a
shorter belt wouldn't the alternator spin more? Thus produce more amps and
voltage?

What happen to the amps output and voltage output when applying an undersize
pulley?
