IAT?

A quick question if someone wouldn't mind answering...

I pulled the IAT to relocate it, and the thing was covered in what looked
and smelled like oil - it was a black, greasy substance, anyway. Is this
normal? I'm thinking not. Would it be the belly pan gasket leaking on me?
Any help is much appreciated.
