Mass air induction systems measure airflow directly with an electronic "hot-
wire" type sensor. The sensing element in the air intake provides and ouput
voltage reading that is directly proportional to the amount of air that is
entering the engine. (NON-Linear)
The MAP sensor uses a perfect vacuum as a reference pressure. The difference
in pressure between the vacuum pressure and intake manifold pressure, changes
the voltage signal. The MAP sensor converts the intake manifold pressure into
voltage. (Linear)
