Jon, all of the ones I have ever seen were mounted through the bed into
the frame. Mounting to just the bed seems like a big safety concern for
me. I wouldn't just trust the sheet metal myself. Wasn't the cargo tie
downs in the floor of the '94 to '01 Ram actually anchored to the bed?
That would explain those commercials they used to have touting that they
were strong enough to pick up the truck.
