I think this matters most dependent on what rim size your using..
I am running 31x10.5.15 on stock 15x7 (off a '91) that the o.d. measures 32
and change.. Where as my buddy running 31x10.5x15 on his stock 15x8(on a
'97 dak) measures right over 31.
BTW, they are the exact same brand/model etc, tires (MasterCraft Courser MT --
note: MasterCraft will be having a hell of a deal this March or April on tires,
guy at shop said to expect to save $80-$100 on a set of 4 from current prices)
Now, some other info you should check out.. from tire manufacturers I
devled into, all suggested runnin 10.5 on 8 or 7 versus on 10 in" wide
wheels, this, according to them, will save/make the sidewall stronger
and more durable. I only found all this out due to the fact that I
wasnt able to fine 15x10 in my bolt pattern at the time(now I know Weld
and a few other make them)
So their suggestion was for 8 and lower 10.5 if you have 9/10/11 go
with 12.5 wide
Just remember that the wider the tire on a smaller rim the little bit
more highth it will have and it will reduce your gearing aspect as I
found out running my stock 3.55 with the 31x10.5 on my stock '95
dak(also lowering gas mileage but actually making my speedo dead on
accurate with radar versus the 235/75R/15 stock badyears)
Hope all this helps,
