Subject: DML: Black Listing Repair Shops

On a somethat related note to Stefan Bartels problem - the oil pressure
drop off... today I just dropped the 4x4 off at a differnet repair shop
for an inspection and an estimate to fix whatever is wrong with it from
bumper to bumper.

I explained the known problems and the truck's history to this guy and
when I told him the machine shop where my last mechanic got the engine
from, went out of business and won't honor the warrenty - he said "Don't
tell me - Engine Czars"... I said you got it. He knew the shop - knew
the guys that worked there and told me he heard stories of that shop
steam cleaning junk yard engines and popping in a set of new rings and
passing it off as rebuilt.

So he confirmed what I already knew. I got screwed royally. He said if
the timing chain is suspect and there is oil pressure problems with only
10K miles put on in a year... he is worried about what the rest of the
engine is like.

To anyone in Chicago or whoever comes through Chicago or no matter where
you live. I am declaring Super Auto & Body Shop @ 1827 W. Fulton, to be
an untrustworthy shop. For anything more complicated than an oil change
- forget it. The owner gave me some discounts, he made some effort to
rectify the situation, but in the end - I got screwed and my truck got
screwed.

I can't tell you where all the good shops and the bad shops are at - but
I can tell you to stay away from that one.

I know the DML has a "Dealer Rating" page - but perhaps its time to
start a database of reputable and dishonest repair shops around from
aroudn the country - based upon customer satisfaction. In the hopes
that this kind of thing doesn't happen again.
