Thanks to all who responded with good suggestions for
fixing my intermittent gremlin. Thought I'd pass on
the "fix" included in short story.
I checked for clogged fuel filter. Nope. Checked for
corroded wires under PCM. Nope. Then just 3 days ago I
was merging into California free-for-all-way when the
Dakota died. Pulled over. Discovered code 12 set.
First time. This seems like intermittent electrical
issue. Battery new. Charging/starting system just
checked out okay. So I opened hood. Wiggled harness in
various places. Wiggled/tapped relays, egr, solenoids,
fuses, sensors. Truck still no start. Then noticed
that the two-wire harness to the coil was touching the
exhaust manifold. Hmmmm...no...could this be it.
Rerouted harness. Truck fired up! Has been running 3
days like a champ ever since. I think that the heat
from manifold increased resistance from coil dkgrn/org
wire to ASD splice, blocking signal to ASD,
effectively turning it off and my truck. Then truck
sits, cools down, and I'm off again. What are your thoughts?
