I don't know about ticking so much as sounding like an amped up
sewingmachine...seems to be inherent with most 6 cylinders, my Grand
Cherokee didn't sound so bad because it had an insulated hood, but the V-6
Taurus I had did and so did the Cherokee (even thought the Grand Cherokee
and the Cherokee were inline 6s...they still sounded the same as my 3.9 does
now).
