Re: Royal Purple? (was: what oil to use on new engine)

I don't think it matters what oil you use when it comes to how long a
vehicle lasts. You could have the best oil, but if you don't change it on a
regular basis, its not gonna help.

My 98 has 151,000 miles on it. I change the oil every 3000 miles,
regardless of time. I used royal purple and mobil1 with the K&N filter.
The royal purple oil made a big difference, but I've been using mobil1
lately due to a change in what oils my source stocked. The mobil1 works
great too... don't get me wrong here.

Synthetic oil has its benefits. Do they justify the $5.00 a quart??
Depends on the situation. If you're like me and beat the living hell out of
my truck, the added protection is a must. But if you don't even rack up
3000 miles in 2-3 months, regular dino oil works, But I would still use
synthetic for the protection factor.

We tend to confuse the synthetic oils with the "snake oils" like dura-lube
and slick50. These products aren't worth a damn thing. Of course, you're
only using a quart of those when the entire engine takes 8 quarts (dry
fill). So really, how the hell can they do anything???

Here's my analogy of oils. Synthetic is engineered by people with IQ's over
80 to run in a engine... but dino oil is just what some inbred hillbilly
finds while out hunting.

What would you put in your $20,000.00 truck knowing that???
