   The Dakota light switches have something of a reputation for
going out - you might want to wiggle the knob to see if that makes
any difference. If so, it may be a loose connection in the
switch somewhere. At any rate, it sounds like a loose connection
somewhere - the cold causing a metal contact to contract and begin
to lose contact...
