Mold in third break light

While washing my truck today (2000 4x4 CC) I noticed that around the bottom
edge of my third brake light (inside) mold had started to grow. After taking
the light off I noticed that the plastic light cover is made of two pieces of
plastic and there is a gap by which water can get in between them. The seal
to keep the electric's dry doesn't even come close to protecting this gap.
My brake light is the one that is red in the middle and clear on the sides,
worst of all there is a silver border (painted on the inside) around the rim
and while trying to scrub the mold out the toothbrush scraped away the paint
also. Has anyone else experienced this.
