Subject: DML: Engine Squeak!?
I need some help. Lately my engine has developed a squeak which sounds
very much like a bird chirping. Only happens at low rpm with light
throttle. I set the emergency brake, put it in gear and listened under
the hood while giving it a little throttle by hand (don't try this at
home kiddies) and I found that it's coming from the drivers side rear
of the engine. Can't pinpoint it but it seems to be coming from the
valve cover area or perhaps the distributor area.... somewhere close
to that. Any ideas what this could be? It sounds to me like metal on
metal producing a high pitched "chirp". Could a pushrod be scraping
against a guide plate or something? It started a few days ago and is
now getting worse. I would like to figure this one out before
something breaks. I don't think it's pulleys or drive belt because it
is definitely emanating from the rear area of the engine.
