Knock on a 4.7?

Since I got this truck in May 2000, the engine has been somewhat loud during
load or hard acceleration. From the descriptions of pinging on the 5.2 and
5.9, it sounds suspiciously like what I've been hearing under the hood with
the 4.7.

So the other day I broke the bank and bought 89 octane gas. Seems to me that
the engine runs a lot smoother and there's less 'knock' or ping during hard
acceleration. And it certainly seems to rev easier.

Has anyone else experienced this?

What would be the possible solutions (other than expensive higher octane
gas)?

Now I do buy 90% of my gas at Pionerr Petroleum (an independent here in
southern Ontario), but I've never noticed any difference using any other
gas.
