We have 3 shops in town, and they are all like that. You could try asking them to separate the cash and acrry price from the labor, then compare the price they give you to the prices you find online. Get them to lower the overall price...

Just got home after a stop at the local (2 blocks away) "speed shop". 3
years ago, they sold me a hitch for my '99 for $125. They just quoted
me TWO HUNDRED dollars for a hitch for the '03.
Also asked about the Sportmasters hinged tonneau. They offered a Downey
model instead, saying it would probably be cheaper. No problem for me,
I had a Downey on the '99 and loved it. $425. I paid $225 for the
non-hinged Downey on the '99 (another shop in town). $475 for the
Sportmasters unit. I refuse to believe there's a $200 difference for a
pair of hinges, gas struts, and less vinyl.
Suffice to say, I won't be going back there for *anything*. Time to
start shopping more online.
