I got out of work at a reasonable hour today and the weather was decent,
so I went for it. I ended up getting a Downey LTD (hinged soft cover)
because the price was good and I was very pleased with the Downey SST I
had on the '99.
Installation took me about 30 minutes (working alone) and was very easy.
The side rails are marked to show where to clamp on the lower strut
mounts - no measuring, no guesswork. I seem to be missing the strap that
hangs from the rear bar to facilitate closing it. Not a problem for me,
as I can reach up and grab it - others will not be so lucky. Gotta call
Downey and see if they can send a replacement and if not I'll just make
one from some nylon webbing. I think it's very slightly off-square,
which will get rectified when I remove it in 2 weeks for spraying on the
bedliner.
The struts work not at all like I expected - but I'm very happy with the
operation.
