The magazine article sounds great, looks great-- and is to be expected. I am basing my info re: people who sell and install these motors-- plus friends that have them. They do produce the power as advertised-- but are not bullet proof, nor have them shown to have good longevity. A local club member did a 380 crate about a year ago-- it threw a rod recently-- with less than 10k on the motor (it's not raced, juiced, or abused). It's in a 72 duster, clean as a whistle-- does the car show circuit locally, and gets driven on a bi-weekly basis. Sure, it gets a bit of tire spinning action, and has only made a few 1/4 mi passes at a Show-N-Go (did run very well, though).

He's pretty disappointed--- now he's going for a 408, built with the good stuff. Get a good used block, build it from there-- still should be less than $4k doing it yourself-- and making more power.
