HEHe-- want the real answer? It's a function of the PCM-- it senses
load based on vacuum, and kicks off the AC... ALL Dodge products ~84
and up do this... My wife's Dodge 600 did it, my 91, 95, 99, 99, 99, 00
Dakota all did it.. I actually had my pcm programmed on my 00 to kick
out earlier than normal--

Mine does the same things as well as a few others on the list. I
think
we've narrowed it down to a vacuum leak somewhere. Someone found
theirs,
but that doesn't mean that yours would be in the same place. I haven't
located mine, but I haven't put a lot of effort into finding it either.

BTW, I think the air switches to floor. Good luck finding your leak and
let
us know if you do.

Okay. Here's another one. When I accelerate under load
(like going uphill) my a/c cuts out. No air at all
comes out front vents. Does the same with the fresh
air fan when truck is under load. I can hear what
sounds like air blowing behind the dash. But I can
only feel just the tiniest bit of air coming out of
windshield vents. But that's it.

Then when I let off the gas pedal a bit, all the air
comes back out the front a/c vents.

I'm replacing the plenum plate and gasket soon. I have
a bit of oil inside my intake manifold. Would this
have anything to do with the a/c problem?
