Mike,
You can drain the radiator until the level in the block is below the
intake, but how the heck are you gonna know? So, just open the petcock
and letter whiz until nothing else comes out.
On the fuel line disconnect-aint no flare nut wrench gonna get it off,
and if you got the same kind as was on my '99, you gotta have the tool.
I tried for 1 hour to get it off and make myself a way to unhook it.
Just buy the tool- 2 types, 1 is a metal one that has 2 different sizes
on either end and opens and closes like scissors, the other is a kit
that gives about 5 sizes in 1 packet. Metal one runs @ $8, kit runs
about $13 at Autozone or Advance Auto Parts.
You dont have to remove the valve covers, but if you got everything
apart, they'll be real easy to do. I'd change the side that wasnt done
yet if you still got the gasket.
If the truck sits for about 1-2 hours, the fuel pressure normally will
relieve itself, but pop the gas cap and put it back on and then push on
the schrader valve on the fuel rail to check if it still has fuel pressure.
Good luck, and plan for 6-8 hours including lunch.
Patrick
