Not too much sooner than I post this and my truck starts having fits on it's
way to family. I made it 1/2 way and had to pull off in some 300 person
town with 1 bar and a female bartender who sounded like she smoked too many
cigarettes. She was nice though and tried to call everyone she knew that
knew cars, but there was some barn fire somewhere....

Anyways. Driving along the highway and about 90 miles after filling up, the
check engine light comes on. Immediately after, I lost power and the engine
started "bucking". It was probably backfiring, but I couldn't hear
anything, just felt like it was hitting slush or something on the road. If
I applied power, there was a rattling coming from somewhere.

I stopped, checked fluids and things appeared fine. Started it back up and
revved it - fine. As soon as it was in gear; same thing. I limped it to
the little town (on the map I had it was bigger; hoping for a car shop).
Called my brother and hoped he could help. Being 2 hours away, he suggested
that I disconnect the battery and let her sit for a while as he was coming
down with a tow dolley. (Being Good Friday, everything was closed at this
time). He was able to get both O2 sensors (he had similar problems). When
he came down is when he suggested that I disconnect my Jet Chip. DOH!!!

Wouldn't you know it, after a few minutes of ugly smoke coming out the
pipes, it ran fine. No problems since.

Now... my Jet chip is probably bad and I could fanagle a replacement under
the lifetime warranty... Was I right about the O2 sensors? Is there anyway
to pull that code again?

The only sensor I've replaced is the PCV valve at 60k. Plugs and wires are
fine. Battery is new.

I'm also having lifter clatter in the morning now more than in past years.
What's the cause of this? Is it related?

Sorry for the long wind, but after finally getting the good job, I'm not
looking forward to dumping money into this truck

Thanks!

Chris
