True Duals

I know some people use 2.5" pipes when doing true duals but accoring to the
formula for the area of a circle, 3.14 (pi)xR(radius)xR, you get 9.82 square
inches of area with (2) 2.5" pipes, which is more than a single 3.5" pipe.
A single 3" pipe has 7.07 sq. in. Wouldn't it be better to use (2) 2.25"
pipes (area = 7.96 sq. in.) to keep some low end? This would be for a 300HP
318.
Thanks,
James
