If you want to give her a GOOD first car to drive, get her a Dak. It would
be safer for her to drive, (more metal around her for her protection), and
she would have the flexibility of a pickup. I had four kids, two boys, two
girls. The first car for each was a pickup. They could not carry too many
people and when they were moving between home/college/their own homes, they
had the truck to help. Just my 2 cents.

Why are the used Neons so cheap?

Because they are inexpensive to begin with, and by the time most of them hit
the used car lots, they have had the crap run out of them. Yeah, it's Mom
and Dad's car, but that's the one they let the kids drive. Or, it's some
young person's first new car, and they run the crap out of them, don't
maintain them, and in 2-3 years, they have had it.
Just my observation.
